How to use the album name generator

Album, mixtape, EP and deluxe are named differently

Album
Ordinary Gods The album title is the one that has to hold a whole idea. It can be abstract, because the project carries the meaning rather than one hook. One to three words, and it should still make sense to somebody who has not heard a note.
Mixtape
Loose Ends, Vol. 2 Mixtape names are allowed to be looser and more disposable, and they carry signals of their own: volumes, chapters, Side A, a host name, or an artist presenting somebody. Those signals are what mark it as a tape and not the album.
EP
Four Rooms Short project, short name. An EP title works best when it is small and specific, often a number that matches the track count. It should not sound bigger than the thing it is naming.
Deluxe
Ordinary Gods (Deluxe) A deluxe is not a new name, it is a tag on the old one. Keep the original title exactly as it was so the two versions stay connected in search, and put the tag in brackets on the end.
How a mixtape name tells you it is a mixtape
Mixtape titles carry signals that album titles do not, and using one tells a listener what they are getting before they read a tracklist.
- Volumes. Vol. 1, Vol. 2. Says there will be more, and says this one is part of a run rather than a statement.
- Chapters and sides. Chapter 2, Side A. Same signal, more of a story frame.
- Presents. One name presenting another. Reads as a co-sign, and it is the oldest convention on this list.
- Season or year. Ties the tape to a moment on purpose, which is a strength for a tape and a weakness for an album.
- The loose-project word. Leftovers, Loose Ends, Scraps, Demos. Sets expectations low and honestly, and takes the pressure off.
How long should an album title be?
One to three words handles almost every project. Past that you are fighting two things at once.
The first is the artwork tile. A project name sits under a square thumbnail in every streaming app, and it gets cut off sooner than a song title does. The second is speech. Projects get recommended out loud far more often than songs do, and a title somebody cannot say cleanly in a sentence does not get passed on. Version tags: Deluxe, Reloaded, Vol. 2
- (Deluxe) goes on the end of the original title, unchanged. Renaming the project breaks the link between the two versions on every platform at once.
- (Extended) and (Reloaded) do the same job with a different flavor. Pick one and stay consistent across your catalog.
- Vol. 2 only earns its number if volume one exists and landed. A sequel to a tape nobody heard reads as filler.
- (Explicit) is never something you type. Platforms set that flag from your upload.
How to check an album name is not taken
Project titles are generally not protected the way recordings are, so two albums can share a name. The cost is search, not law.
- Search the exact title in quotes on the streaming platform you care about, and not just on Google.
- Check whether the name is already a well known project in another genre. It still buries you.
- Say it out loud and picture somebody typing it after hearing it once. If the spelling is ambiguous, that is a search problem forever.
